Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been warned by Americans their “empire” is now crumbling as they reacted to the Duke of Sussex listing his official residence as the United States.
“I feel like the empire is falling, so why not detach yourself before it crashes?” said beauty entrepreneur Ramiya Catten in an interview with Daily Express US.
Americans are feeling a mix of emotions after it was revealed that Harry listed his official residence as the United States in UK regulatory filings.
Most seem ambivalent about his and Meghan’s move to the US, which dates back to 2020. But they’re united in seeing Prince Harry face consequences if it’s true that he lied about his past drug use on his visa application.
“I feel like things like that come with privilege, so if he’s saying he’s reformed, I don’t think they’re gonna hold him to that, so I don’t think there’s anything we can do about that,” Catten added.

Paperwork filed with the Companies House in the UK for Harry’s company Travalyst Ltd notes that his “New Country/State Usually Resident” is now the USA.
“I don’t know why they wanna come to the US, you know? What’s the reason, his wife?” asked Don Johnson, a manager at a bagel shop in Manhattan.
“I don’t think it will work out as they think it will. Here in America, it’s different from the UK. They’re not gonna get the privacy they think they’re going to get.”
Others were surprised that it took the royal this long to formally admit it, considering he moved to California with Meghan in 2020 when they stepped down as senior working members of the Royal Family.
“Finally!” said fabric and leather expert Jessica Pinard. “He lives here with his family. It’s long overdue.”
Commenting on whether he might have lied on his US visa application, she added: “I think that’s irrelevant. I think that’s the past. At this point, he’s much older, so I don’t think it should be a reflection on the man that he is today.”

When he stepped away from royal duties, the prince had signaled that the move to the US may only be temporary.
He even went to pains to stress that the UK will always be his “home.” Now, it’s clear the US move is a permanent endgame.
In New York on holiday from England, Ruth sat at a café in downtown Manhattan.
Asked what she thought about Harry calling himself a permanent US resident, she said: “That’s good if that’s what he thinks, because they’ve kind of shot themselves in the foot about being in England. They’ve not behaved very respectfully toward the royal family.”
And speaking on holiday from France, Linda urged the US government to do their due diligence in investigating Harry’s visa application after he detailed his previous drug use in his best-selling memoir “Spare.”
