Royal expert claims that Meghan Markle is like ‘Marmite’ as she avoids a UK visit

Prince Harry is travelling to London next week without his wife, Meghan Markle, and one royal expert thinks it goes further than her saying she ‘never wants to set foot again in England’

A week ahead of Prince Harry’s visit to London, a royal expert believes that there’s a reason that his wife won’t be joining them.

The Duke of Sussex is heading to the UK for a special service to commemorate the Invictus Games, an international Olympics-type competition for veterans and active military personnel around the world.

Meghan Markle won’t be joining him, which is no surprise after royal author Omid Scobie said she “never wants to set foot again in England.”

Harry is also attending the Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral next Wednesday, which might be part of the reason Meghan isn’t joining her husband. When the couple were there last, in 2022, Meghan “got booed” by the public after they exited a car.

She will be going with Harry to Nigeria but not the UK
Royal expert Chris Ship told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive Show that Meghan wouldn’t want to experience that again. “The difficulty is you remember last time they went to St Paul’s Cathedral, which was for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, they got booed,” he said.

“We heard the boos for them. We should be clear there was also people cheering for them, but there were definitely boos at St Paul’s Cathedral,” he added, “So going back there I can see why Meghan may not wish to accompany Harry there.”

Meghan will be joining Harry in Nigeria later on in the month though, the next stop on an Invictus Tour. Chris believes that Meghan is seen differently in Africa than she is in her husband’s homeland.

“As much as Meghan in this country is a bit of Marmite character, people love her or people really don’t love her, she is likely to be seen very very differently in Africa,” Chris said.

The couple have been urged to “reconsider” their travel to the country, as the United States has given Nigeria a Level 3 advisory, the second highest risk level.

The level is calculated based on the risk of crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and armed gangs. Dai Davies, former royal protection officer, believes it’s hypocritical of Harry to travel there after he raised security concerns about being in the UK.

“It’s strange that he personifies the risk factors here and is willing to go to one of the world’s most dangerous countries,” he said to The Express.
