Kate Middleton ‘terrified’ that Prince George will pick up Prince William’s dangerous hobby
Prince William and Kate are well known for having a cheeky sense of competition when it comes to outdoing each other at sports – but there’s one hobby the Princess of Wales shudders to think of
Prince William and Kate share a love of sports and friendly competition – but there’s one ‘horror’ activity they don’t see eye to eye on.
Regarded as one of the sportiest royals, mum of three Kate was known for her hockey prowess during her schooldays at Marlborough College. She’s carried her enthusiasm for athletics into adulthood, and is known to be a dab hand at netball, table tennis, and sailing.
The Wimbledon regular, who recently wrote a sweet tribute to Andy Murray following his retirement plans, is known to be an excellent tennis player. Last year, she even played against the legendary Roger Federer in a charity event, with the eight-time trophy holder praising her performance as ‘amazing’.
As for husband William, who recently cheered on the England team in Germany, sport is also an important part of daily life. The heir to the throne represented St Andrew’s University on the water polo team and also loves swimming, skiing, and, of course, football.
However, there’s one activity that William enjoys that Kate simply cannot bear, and she dreads their son Prince George inheriting his passion for it…
In 2015, Kate confessed to being ‘terrified’ of William’s love of motorbikes, during a Royal visit to Dundee. At the time, Prince George was just two years old, while Princess Charlotte was only a few months old. The youngest Wales child, Prince Louis, would arrive three years late.
Despite her children being so young, Kate, now 42, was already frantic with worry about the thought of them developing an interest in motorbikes. She shared: “He’s [William] still riding it. It always fills me with horror when he goes out on it. I’m terrified. Hopefully, I’m going to keep George off it.”
As reported by Hello! at the time, the daring prince obtained his motorbike license on his very first try at the age of 19, after having practiced for the test on his red Kawasaki 125cc bike on the grounds of his father’s Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire.

Explaining why exactly he loves bikes so much, as reported by the Daily Express, William once said: “I don’t know what it is about bikes, but I’ve always had a passion for motorbikes ever since I was very small. I used to do a lot of go-karting when I was younger and then after that I went on to quadbikes and eventually motorbikes. It does help being anonymous with my motorcycle helmet on because it does enable me to relax. But I just enjoy everything about motorbikes and the camaraderie that comes with it.”
In 2018 however, three years after Kate opened up about her fears, William admitted fatherhood had made him more careful, and his days zipping about on a motorbike long behind him – much to Kate’s relief, no doubt. Speaking at the Isle of Man TT races, he revealed: “I’m a dad of three. I have to tone it down. I miss big trips, for me biking was always about being with everybody else.”
