‘Below the radar’: Princess Kate will reportedly step down from the public eye to enjoy a ‘summer break’ with the Royal Family

Princess Kate’s much-celebrated Wimbledon appearance is reportedly her last public engagement for the summer – with she and Prince William now expected to step away from the public eye.

A source close to Kate, 42, confirmed the Wales family will spend the remaining summer “below the radar” at their home in Norfolk after the Princess received a standing ovation from the entire arena at the men’s singles final in her second public appearance this year on Sunday.

In the wake of handing the winner’s trophy to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the Princess of Wales will now enjoy a “summer break” while continuing preventive chemotherapy treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, the insider said.

“There were two dates she really wanted to make,” the source said, according to Vanity Fair.

“She wanted to be at Trooping to support the King and at Wimbledon because she goes every year, and it brings her great joy.”

It’s understood William and Catherine will spend most of their break at Norfolk’s Anmer Hall, a country retreat on the royal family’s Sandringham estate, and are not expected to travel abroad but will visit King Charles and Queen Camilla at Balmoral in Scotland in August.

The King and Queen are set to return to Balmoral estate in the Scottish Highlands for their annual summer break, with other royal family members expected to “drop in” during their stay throughout the month.

According to a well-placed source close to Kate and William, the Royal Family will make their way to Balmoral just days after the castle closes down to the public on August 4.

The castle has functioned as a summer retreat for the firm since the reign of Queen Victoria and was inherited by Charles following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022.

Royal expert Jennie Bond said this year’s summer holidays will be an important opportunity for the firm to “take stock” after Charles and Princess Catherine’s dual cancer diagnoses.

“It’s been one heck of a year for the royal family so far and nothing would please the King more than to have his close family gathered together in the peace of Balmoral for a time to take stock together, mark the passing of an incredibly difficult few months and look to the future,” she told OK! Magazine earlier this month.

“Like Catherine herself has said, cancer treatment brings with it a large measure of uncertainty and that must extend to whether she is able to spend part of the summer holidays at Balmoral.

“If she does go, I’m sure the whole family will want to surround her with love, support and renewed strength.”

It’s not yet confirmed which other royal family members will be invited to Balmoral this summer, but the offer could even extend to Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex.

The news comes after the mother of-three’s first and second public appearance this year at Trooping the Colour in June and the men’s singles final at Wimbledon in July, where she appeared alongside her daughter Princess Charlotte and sister Pippa Matthews.

Kate previously said in a statement said she hoped “to join a few public engagements over the summer” but added “I am not out of the woods yet”.

“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty,” she said.

“Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal.”

Kate revealed in an Instagram video in March she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing “major abdominal surgery”.
