Princess Kate’s very saucy act in front of William on royal tour drew applause
When Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales went to the Caribbean to visit The Bahamas to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, they visited a fish fry – where Kate tried a local delicacy
Kate joked that she was a bit more adventurous than her husband as she downed the local delicacy
In March 2022 Prince William and Kate, the Princess of Wales, went on their first joint overseas tour since 2020, heading to the Caribbean to visit Jamaica, The Bahamas, and Belize to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
During the trip, the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited a fish fry while in the Bahamas, where Kate tried the local delicacy ‘conch pistol’ – said to have the same effect as Viagra. The moment was recalled in an upcoming book, a new Princess of Wales biography, ‘Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The biography’ by Robert Jobson.
The author and royal expert recalls the moment to highlight Kate’s sense of humour. She made headlines at the time, bravely trying the local seafood. She held up the strip of flesh, which comes from the inside of the conch and is commonly said to be the conch’s male genitalia, before putting it in her mouth to applause from the crowds.
William and Kate visited Fish Fry in Abaco, a traditional culinary gathering place which is found on every island in the Bahamas
Kate said: “I’m a little bit more adventurous than William is.” As the pair joked around, he said: “I can handle it.” She added that she had already tried conch fritters but had yet to try conch salad.
Mr Jobson wrote for MailOnline: “William attests to Catherine’s sense of humour, saying they make each other laugh. Even in public, she can occasionally be playful or mischievous”. He used the moment on the Bahamas visit to illustrate his point, saying: “Her eyes lit up when locals told her a dish called ‘conch pistol’ had the same effect as Viagra” before popping the flesh into her mouth, during the royal visit.
Reports at the time describe how Kate then got hold of a knife and helped stall owner Jade ‘Kow’ Adderley, 39, who owns the ‘Kow Conch Stall’. They were offered conch salad. William said: “Ladies first”, before Kate tried it and said: “Delicious.” Mr Adderley said: “She was a good helper. I’d like her to stay and help me at the stall.”
