Kate Middleton is approaching life differently as a result of her cancer diagnosis. The Princess of Wales has, according to a royal author, changed her “perspective.” Where she once went along with her calendar, Kate’s now putting her life first.

The calendar takes a backseat to Kate ‘living her life’

Gone, it seems, are the days of Kate living every moment by what’s on her schedule for the day. (Queen Camilla reportedly does the same thing, even scheduling time with her grandchildren.)

A source close to the royal household told People that the 42-year-old’s taken the “pressure” off as she continues preventative chemotherapy treatment.

Kate announced her diagnosis in a March 2024 video after a January 2024 abdominal surgery found cancer of an undisclosed type and stage. Meanwhile, King Charles III is also undergoing treatment following his own cancer diagnosis.

“It’s good not to feel under pressure and just take her time and have slow days if she needs to,” the source said. All of this has, per royal author Robert Jobson, instilled a life-first attitude in Kate.

Maybe that means putting plans to work remotely on hold to spend some family time with Prince William and their three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

“Before, she used to live her life by the calendar, and now she is living her life, and the calendar comes in after,” Jobson told the outlet. “She will be back. But when you have had an experience like this, it changes your perspective and the order of things.”

Kate is ‘learning’ to live with ‘uncertainty’

In her first major update since announcing her diagnosis, Kate released a statement—and a new portrait—to Instagram on June 14, 2024. In it, she revealed she’d be at Trooping the Colour the following day while also acknowledging she’s “not out of the woods yet.”

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she said, noting her “treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months.”

“On bad days, you feel weak and tired, and you have to give in to your body’s rest,” Kate continued. “But on good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty,” she went on. “Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal.”

She’s focused on having a relaxing summer with Prince William and their kids

This summer’s all about relaxing and having a good time for the Wales family, according to Jennie Bond, a former BBC royal correspondent. Kate “will want to make the summer months as fun and carefree for the children as she possibly can after everything she’s been through,” the expert told OK! Magazine.

So far, it certainly looks like the summer’s going that way. The Prince of Wales, George, and Charlotte went to Taylor Swift’s Eras concert on June 21, 2024, and posed for selfies backstage. Charlotte joined Kate at the Wimbledon final on July 14, 2024, and George has cheered alongside William at multiple sporting events.

George, Charlotte, Louis, William, and Kate have also spent time at their country home in Norfolk, England. Per royal tradition, they might end the summer in Scotland at Balmoral.

“If the king gets the chance, he will relish the chance to hang out with his grandchildren reading them stories, teaching them about the wildlife around them, playing cards, and enjoying picnics…weather permitting.”
