Prince William and Kate Middleton post new staff member role – but they need rare skill

Prince William and wife Kate Middleton are on the lookout for a new member of staff to join them at Kensington Palace, but there is a very specific requirement for the role

When it comes to life in the Royal spotlight, our favourite members of “the firm” are often assisted by a highly skilled team of staff behind the scenes, with vacancies to work with the senior members of the Royal family very rarely being advertised.

However, if you’ve ever dreamed of working alongside Prince William and his wife, Princess Kate, you’re in luck – as the Royal couple recently posted an advert for a brand new member of staff to assist them at Kensington Palace.

The exciting new role is for an Assistant Private Secretary to help with planning and delivering most of TRH’s public engagements in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, with a particular focus on Wales. Yet, if you’re hoping to join the palace staff, there is a catch, as the focus on Wales means that candidates will need to have conversational Welsh skills at a minimum, with fluent written and spoken Welsh desirable.

Prince William and wife Kate have a longstanding connection with Wales going back decades
In addition, the secretary will also need to have a strong understanding of Welsh communities, affairs, government, and business, along with stellar communication skills and a proven ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of individuals and institutions.

While roughly only 891,800 people speak Welsh, or Cymraeg as it’s known, the language does come with a surprising Royal link, as King Charles once famously studied for weeks ahead of his investiture as the Prince of Wales back in 1969 to master the language in respect for the nation he was set to serve.

Prince William and wife Kate, share a personal bond with Wales, as William previously served as an RAF rescue pilot on Anglesey, the island where the couple set up their early marital home after their spectacular 2011 nuptials, reports the Mirror.

William’s attempts to learn Welsh were revealed during his visit to Swansea with wife Kate, back in 2022.

Since becoming the Prince of Wales in 2022, following his father King Charles’ ascension and the passing of Queen Elizabeth, William has actively embraced learning Welsh. In a heartfelt gesture, mere days after the Royal mourning period concluded, he and Kate visited Swansea to engage with the locals and underscore his deep fondness for Wales.

During their visit, Rev. Steven Bunting who welcomed them in Swansea, spoke to PEOPLE about William’s dedication to learning the language. “He talked about learning Welsh and shared some Welsh phrases he’s trying to do,” disclosed Bunting, noting that William is practising words like “paned” (a cup of tea) and “bara brith” (traditional Welsh tea bread).
