Prince William’s ‘hidden reason’ for falling in love with Kate Middleton is not what you think
As Prince William and Kate Middleton continue to go from strength to strength in their relationship, a Royal expert has revealed the ‘hidden reason’ the future King fell in love with his wife
When Prince William first crossed paths with his future wife Kate Middleton at St Andrews University in Scotland, he was seen as a somewhat reserved and distant character – quite different from the charismatic senior Royal we recognise today.
Having tragically lost his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, when he was just 15 years old, the Prince had already endured an unimaginable amount of trauma at such a tender age.
However, after meeting Kate, a Royal expert has disclosed that he began to emerge from his shell and evolve into the charming and devoted husband and father we all admire today. Duncan Larcombe, a Royal biographer and former newspaper Royal editor, shed light on one particular aspect about Kate that captured William’s heart – and it’s not what you might anticipate.
“It’s easy to underestimate the role the Middletons have played in William’s life,” he shared with OK! “Yes, he fell in love with Kate at university, but frankly he fell in love with the Middleton family as well.”

He further added: “They were the family he has never had – the mum, dad and three kids spending time together and going on family holidays. It was a new world he’d not experienced before.”
It was William’s eagerness and strong desire to ingratiate himself with the Middletons that initially caught Kate’s eye, as it demonstrated a keen willingness to accept both the woman he adored and her family, who are very precious to her.
The bond between William and Kate was significantly strengthened as they both brought out the best in each other.
Duncan remarked: “William was really very starry-eyed about Kate and they brought out the best in each other in many ways. William is quite shy and can be reserved around new people. He’s very cautious, and in that way they are quite similar characters. Their relationship blossomed on spaghetti Bolognese and rain-swept beaches.”

Prince William found the taste of normal life with Kate and her family incredibly appealing, offering a stark contrast to his own childhood in the public eye with King Charles and Princess Diana.
Royal expert Hugo Vickers also shared insights with OK! magazine, saying: “We’ve always been told that Prince William found the Middleton household very convenient, in the sense that he felt it had a sort of a normality that his own upbringing hadn’t particularly had.”
In their quest for privacy, especially for their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, the couple has maintained a low-key approach to their personal lives, mirroring their time in Anglesey with an ‘informal’ household, fewer staff, and a strong emphasis on family activities.
