Royal news live: Kate Middleton makes surprise appearance as Harry and Meghan ‘desperate’ for peace talks
Kate’s trip to Scotland has been described as a ‘positive’ amid her health troubles
Kate, 42, has made just two official appearances this year but was photographed attending church with Prince William on Saturday (25 August).
The princess rode in the passenger seat as her husband drove her to Crathie Kirk church near Balmoral Castle.
Royal author Phil Dampier has described her summer break in Aberdeenshire as a “positive” step in her recovery, according to Fabulous magazine.
An insider told the Daily Mail: “It seems quite clear that they are desperate to start healing the rift.”
It is believed that the relationship deteriorated as a result of Harry and Meghan’s decision to give several tell-all interviews about their time as working royals.
Emily Maitlis issues opinion on Prince Andrew’s guilt
Five years after Prince Andrew sat down with Emily Maitlis in Buckingham Palace, a three-part drama on how the world-famous interview came about will drop next month.
Ahead of its release on Amazon Prime, former Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis has spoken out in the Times, on what she makes of Prince Andrew’s guilt.
Maitlis recalls speaking to Ruth Wilson, star of Luther and Jane Eyre, who asks her whether she thinks the royal is guilty.
“I tell her there is no way I or anyone else will ever know the full truth of what happened with or to Virginia Giuffre, the trafficked Jeffrey Epstein victim who claims she was also abused by the royal,” Maitlis writes.
“But he was clearly guilty of other things — his continued friendship with Epstein after his arrest, his flat-footed response to the victims of sex trafficking.”
The series will be released on September 19.Prince William “adamant” that Harry will never be welcomed back into the Firm, expert says
Former BBC Royal correspondent Michael Cole has said there will be “no softening” of William’s approach to Harry, who has done “the unthinkable”.
“What [men] cannot put up with are two things which they cannot abide with,” Mr Cole told GB News America.
“Their driving ability, and they certainly cannot allow their wife to be criticised. Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have made no secret of their disdain for Princess Kate.
“Even when her cancer was diagnosed and she announced it herself. The message they sent was sort of a mealy-mouthed thing.”
When Kate’s illness was revealed to the public, the Sussexes released a message which read: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope they can do so privately and in peace.”
William and Kate ‘throw cushions at each other’ during arguments, source says
Kate Middleton uses a “secret weapon” to diffuse husband William when he is having a tantrum, a source has revealed.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are used to “terrific rows” according to the Mirror, with Kate well-versed in how to deal with Prince William.
A source who once worked for the future King and Queen at Kensington Palace said Kate often treats her husband as the “fourth child” because he is “prone to tantrums”.
When things get particularly heated, they are known to throw things at each other – but never anything which might cause hurt. “William and Kate throw cushions at each other. It’s always kept under control.”
The pair have “terrific rows” just like any normal marriage, the source said
Prince Harry ‘outrageously disloyal’
One of Prince Harry’s former friends has branded the Duke of Sussex “outrageously disloyal” for his actions after stepping down as a working royal.
Speaking to The Times ahead of Harry’s 40th birthday next month, they said: “I can’t believe he’d stoop so low. It’s outrageously disloyal. Oprah, Netflix and then the book? Three strikes and you’re out.”
Harry’s ‘bloody rude’ treatment of the Princess of Wales
A friend of the Prince and Princess of Wales has described Prince Harry’s treatment of the future queen as “bloody rude”.
This comes after it was claimed that Prince William was “furious” about Harry and Meghan’s decision to call his wife “Kate” and not her preferred name of “Catherine” when they released a statement wishing her well after she was diagnosed with cancer.
“Of course, it’s an utterly trivial thing, but those of us who know William know that it is one of the things that pushes his buttons,” the source told The Daily Beast.
“Pushing his buttons while he was going through his wife’s cancer seemed an entirely unnecessary and deliberate irritation.”
They added: “No one’s saying it’s responsible for all the trouble, but deliberately calling someone by a name they don’t like is just bloody rude.”
William was reportedly “furious” that the Sussexes referred to the Princess of Wales as Kate
Queen Camilla’s new domestic violence documentary will ‘help others’
Further details have emerged about Queen Camilla’s upcoming documentary on domestic violence.
Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors will air later this year on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player, although its exact release date has not yet been disclosed.
Kate Teckman, ITV’s head of development and commissioning editor, said: “With exclusive access to Her Majesty as she meets the incredible survivors of domestic abuse, this film tells the stories of those who have suffered and their families, including Diana Parkes, as they bravely and selflessly share their experiences to raise awareness and help others.”
Kate wants William to make amends with “lost soul” Harry
Following her cancer diagnosis earlier this year, Kate reportedly feels “life’s too short for grudges” and wants William to give Harry a “chance”.
According to Closer Magazine, Kate is still very fond of Harry and is “saddened” that the situation has reached a point where there is “this wall that can’t be broken down”.
A source, speaking to Closer Magazine, said: “She really wants William to try and fix (the relationship), but he’s refusing and is adamant that Harry deserves no mercy, that anything they do will just be manipulated by him and Meghan.
“Kate has never been someone that could just turn off her feelings with a switch and going through cancer has only made her more sensitive and caring.”
The sister-in-law dynamics within the royal family are famously strained
Camilla and Kate have ‘drawn strength and inspiration from one another’
Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales have “drawn strength and inspiration from one another”, it has been claimed.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond speculated that the women have bonded over their similar positions within the royal family.
“I think Queen Camilla and Catherine have drawn strength and inspiration from one another: two women in this extraordinary situation in life, both with the same bizarre destiny,” she told OK! magazine.
Prince Harry reveals which royal family member called him ‘spare’
The Duke of Sussex has revealed that it was his father King Charles who first referred to him as the “spare”.
This comes after Harry, 39, released a tell-all memoir about his time in The Firm with the same name in January of last year.
The now-king reportedly made the comment at the time of Harry’s birth in 1984, telling the late Princess Diana: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare – my work is done.”
The Guardian claims that Harry’s upset at the title was reflected in his memoir of the same name.
The newspaper wrote in its review: “Harry’s resentment of being the ‘spare’ is the underlying theme of his book, through chapters on his childhood, his schooling, his career as a royal and in the British Army, his relationship with his parents and brother, and his life with Meghan through courtship, wedding and marriage, to their own experience of parenthood.”
ICYMI: William and Kate ‘may only have a few years of freedom left’
King Charles’s cancer diagnosis has rocked the monarchy and inspired the Princess of Wales to make the most of her “freedom” while she still has it.
She is reportedly using this time to equip her three young children with the life skills they will need to navigate their unusual position in society.
“Charles’ cancer hasn’t gone away, the Palace have said as much, and to be brutally honest, the once-popular notion that he will live to a similar age as his mother [94] or father [99] is now less widespread,” an insider told The Daily Beast.
“I think that has very much focused Kate’s mind on the fact that there may only be a few years of freedom left. What does she want to do with them? Nurture her kids and try her best to equip them for the life ahead of them.”
